Cracking the Red Flag Acronyms Your Kids are using on Social Media

Besides the common acronyms like BTW (by the way),  LOL (which actually means Laugh out loud, and not lots of love!), do you really know what your kids are texting their online friends?

I used to see one of my niece always using kk, I always wondered why she was always making a typo for OK, as it was not hard to decipher what she meant.  Thankfully, there was no red flag acronym here…phew!

Remember very importantly, every child is your child.  Your kid may not be using these red flag acronyms, but someone else’s may.  I am always on the lookout checking out kids in Sunday school and our Sound Mind Classes.  They may not know I am watching what they are texting now and again (ha ha), but if I should find one compromising their safety, then I will definitely alert the parents and/or confront the kid.

We just need to protect our kids.

Do you have any acronyms we could add to this list?  We would be appreciative if you let us know.

  1. I’m 17 years old, and have only seen or used “GTG” in any conversation or post ever. I’ve never even heard of these! This is the list of texting acronyms I’ve seen or used:

    – brb (be right back)
    – gtg (got to go)
    – hry/hru (how are you)
    – gn (goodnight)
    – tmrw (tomorrow)
    – ur (your/you’re)
    – tn (tonight)
    – idk (I don’t know)
    – idc (I don’t care)
    – kk/k (okay)

I found this list to be odd. Acronyms are used to make texting easier, not to hide things, at least from what I’ve seen.
