Never Give Up (Never Surrender)
I watched with amazement as Zoe formed a relationship with a young person who was habitual at self-harm. Within five days of interaction only she had got a stop to the daily cutting.
They got along as if they were in physical touch. What astounded me the more was when the young person agreed to stop cutting as it was found that it did not solve anything. This continued for up to four days at a stretch. Zoe taught me never to give up on people.
Relationships are everything in life I discovered as Zoe got to know more things about her than I believe even her parents did know. All this happened online. I read somewhere that teenagers had deserted Facebook for other social media. They hide behind alaises in private accounts so that it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack for their parents to attempt to find them on social media since they discovered their parents and older relatives snooping on their activities through Facebook.
Distance, physical distance can affect intervention as she recently went back to cutting. Something we do not know may have triggered this as she said she didn’t care anymore. However, the young person has got back on track. The young person has not given up. A few days ago she actually requested to say something to me while online with my wife. She let me know how blessed I was to have Zoe saying without having been in contact with her she would be dead by now. It was a very moving moment.
Have you ever felt like giving up life? What or who kept you going?
