10 Ways To Ease the Dis -ease of Mental illness
By Tonya King
There are so many ways to get off track on our journey to get healthy and whole.
Having a challenge with mental illness can derail even the most faithful person. I am finding my faith walk with God a little difficult right now as I am dealing with an upcoming major surgery I was not prepared for in the least.
So, I sat down with God and asked Him how I could get back on track with my faith and my wholeness.
We came up with 10 things that have helped me and may help you with what you are facing.
- Confess any sin that may be hindering you from drawing closer to God.
Even the tiniest infraction can keep us from fully drawing into God. If you feel far from him, ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind any sin that is unconfessed and confess it.
- Come to God with your brokenness.
You can hide your brokenness from people but not from God. Give it to Him. All of it. Hold nothing back. It is in this brokenness we can find healing and your faith will be strengthened.
- Seek God every day in prayer.
Make a set appointment with God each day to seek Him in prayer. Set that appointment in stone and try to be consistent. It is through prayer that we find God.
- Immerse yourself in His word daily.
This is just as important as finding time for prayer. You should be carving out time to read and study God’s word. It is where we find out who we are in Christ and how we are to live our lives before Him.
- Participate in a small group or bible study.
It is through fellowship with other believers that we can find support and draw strength for our journey.
- Be thankful.
- Get your eyes off yourself
- Invite the Holy Spirit to guide you each day.
- Accept healing.
Do not think that God will never heal you. Your healing has already been bought by Christ on the cross. Accept it.
- Be a Warrior.
Do not ever give up. God is fighting for you and you need to fight for yourself… for your wholeness and stability.
God is always faithful. Put your trust in Him and know that you are strong enough for the battle because you are fighting in God’s strength.
These are only suggestions. Anything that helps you stay stable and strong in your faith is what you should continue to do.
However, if you are having a dry spell or just need to change things up a bit, you can try one or all of these suggestions. I hope they help.
