7 Important Habits of Successful People
When faced with mental illness, is it possible to be a success? I believe so.
The formula of success remains the same. These are discipline, tenacity and dedication.
For example, I believe in the power of positive affirmation. So, there is no point saying today, I am a winner because you having a bright day. Then the next day, because you have something that challenges the brightness of that day, you say things like why do bad things always happen to me?
There has to be discipline to maintain what you want to achieve. There has to be tenacity. That means irrespective of what the day is panning out to be, whether you are feeling the onset of symptoms, there is something you are aiming for in the long run. The focus does not change!
So lets look at some other things that successful people do.
#1 Let our past only develop our future
Experiences are training ground. Good ones are there to be built upon. Negative experiences are there to be learnt from.
Your experiences don’t define you. Mental illness for example does not define you. Successful people learn from their mistakes and those around them.
When someone makes a mistake around you it is an opportunity to extend kindness and forgiveness. This has the effect of motivating everyone to ensure things are done right in future.
#2 Never stoop to complain
Complaining has the effect of making you a victim. In fact, complaining is so not good for you and your brain(!), according to studies. Rather than complain which is describing a negative situation, seek solutions by seeing challenges in the negative situation you may have complained about. Words carry power. Therefore you need to use your words to bring about the outcomes you desire rather than establish the negative ones you seek to complain about. That is the positive affirmation I mentioned earlier.
#3 Celebrate others – Remember birds of a feather flock together
The success of others does not take away anything from you. Birds of a feather flock together so make every effort to have successful people around you. Resentment feeds off a massive amount of energy that could be more productive channeled towards activities that generate successful outcomes.
#4 See your life and future as being totally in your control.
Most successful people do feel good fortune has something to do with their success. However, they plan for success. They don’t depend on good fortune. When they are successful it is down to them, If they fail it is down to them. The see their future as being in their control.
#5 Never fret over issues you have no control over
Issues that you have no control over do not need to tie up your energy that could be used in the things you can change. You have control over yourself. Therefore the only person you can guarantee a change from is yourself.
Other people can only be influenced by you to change. Channeling your energies into fruitless attempts at forcing changes in others can seriously slow your progress.
Do your bit, act on your convictions but don’t fret over ensuring the outcomes you have no control over.`
#6 Constantly review long-term goals
Mental fatigue makes us give up or rationalize our positions. It is essential to have tangible reminders that keep you on the course to success. When you have visible reminders of your long-term goals, it is easier to motivate yourself towards achieving them regardless of the challenges.
I have been amazed at how notes of plans that developed from ideas I have had in the past have after coming across them after a long period of time have given a fresh boost to when I had all but given up on these.
#7 Always be thankful
Having a thankful disposition is a key ingredient to successful living. When your focus is more on the things you have rather than the things that you seek, you can maintain a thankful heart. It makes it easier to maintain a strong foundation for success.
Focus on your blessings rather than your challenges. This motivates you to continually strive towards success.
