Stop Procrastinating, Fight For Yourself
by Joao
A lot of people do not know the power a single decision sometimes has.
In a way or another, we’ve all been there. Misery, despair, suffering, people go through it a lot in their lives.
When things do not go our way, we always get bummed out. When life it’s not sunshine and rainbows, we feel worthless sometimes. We feel like the universe is conspiring against us.
Let me tell you something, the universe does not owe us anything. Let me also tell you another thing. You are not worthless. You are not a failure, but you have to make that choice.
We have a choice of picking up the sword and swinging it at the dragon. In other words, doing what we believe was meant for us.
Without going deep into the psychology realm, in a way our psyche is designed to make us chase our full potential. It starts playing tricks on us.
When we get depressed, we feel worthless. We feel all kinds of negativity. We pretty much feel like life has no meaning except to suffer.
And when we start chasing what we believe is right for us, it releases dopamine. Basically, it rewards us mentally. It makes us happy and makes us believe we’re doing the right thing.
Believe me. I have been there. Making the decision of chasing my dreams is what led me here, writing this.
The feeling of life having no meaning is very dangerous. That nihilistic point of view can lead to some really bad choices.
And the answer is, they do.
Every time you do a good thing, you shift the world slightly towards the good of it. Every time you make a bad decision, yes you’ve guessed it.
And what do your dreams have to do with all of that? Simple. You realize life can be trying, but it has meaning.
That decision changes the world. Think of this next time you feel worthless. When you change yourself, you change the world.
I’m going to give a little bit of my life as an example.
Back at the beginning of 2019, I busted up my knee, waited more than half a year for surgery. Now I’m finishing my recovery finally.
Through that length of time, I got depressed. I felt like life was conspiring against me.
But now that I look back at it. Although I will not lie, the injury sucked a lot. But this time was a God-given gift.
I’ve finally made the decision of changing my life. Something I’ve been fantasizing for a long time. I knew I had to do it but I didn’t know how. And now here we are. I’m writing something and you’re reading it.
It has been a hell of a journey until now. I had to change a lot of stuff in my life. I had to drop projects and pick others. I had to cut negative people of my life.
I’ve had happy, fulfilling moments. I’ve had my heart broken and my moments of doubt, but it all led here.
It has not been easy sure, but I know it was all necessary. And deep down, if you somehow feel unfulfilled and frustrated with life, deep down you know you have to do something. But you don’t know what to do. You don’t have the slightest clue where to start. My advice to you first. Stop over-analyzing.
You need to stop over-analyzing but that doesn’t mean jump head-first into whatever.
First off. Sit down. Think to yourself. What is your dream? what is your goal? What do you think is the reason for your existence? Don’t be scared, also, like I said, don’t overthink it. Simply be honest with yourself, and answer it.
Chances are a lot is going to change in your life. You’re probably going to drop ideas, plans and even people in pursuit of your goal. But that is part of the path. In my opinion, that is part of our journey in life. Nothing is certain, life itself is change.
The second part, schedule. This is where procrastination meets its end. At the end of every day, schedule the next. What is that you’re going to do in the next morning? And in the afternoon? How much time do I have to dedicate to my pursuit? And with that, start answering the questions. From this hour to that hour I have to work. But here I have an hour to dedicate to my pursuit. Do not underestimate the power of an hour a day. At the end of a year it’s 365 hours. And where do you see yourself in 5 years if you keep at it?
I cannot stress the importance of following your schedule enough. Even if it is just with 70% accuracy. When you do not follow it, you start procrastinating. And now you work hard in a day to compensate for the other and in the next, you don’t have the energy. You start cracking the whip on yourself and that leads nowhere. Just pointless pain. So guys, just bite the bullet. Be disciplined.
And with that, you’ll start seeing that the world itself kind of changes into what you need to achieve your dreams. You’re saying that’s impossible, right? Well, what if I told you it’s not?
Not going to take this into the mystical kind of way, but that does happen. It’s not the world that changes per se. It’s you that is changing. And people will notice that when you become focused on your pursuit. Once you’ve made your mind and want to chase your dreams. Part of the journey is you changing along the way. We are adaptive creatures that became numb with the idea of security and mediocrity society puts nowadays.
Once you’ve developed the mentality you need to pursue what you want. Once you’ve become hungry and relentless. You become one of the few people who’ve done it in this world. You become one of the 1% in a way. Now, you tell me. Will you stand in front of a lion when he’s charging a gazelle? That’s why the world shifts itself around you. Nobody in its perfect mind stands in front of a hungry lion. As I said above, when you change yourself, you change the world.
Now with everything said. I hope I put fire into that belly of yours. Remember, you are awesome. And when you start chasing what you want, your life begins. Now Go Get It!
