Depression: RIP Robin Williams
Today the world mourns the sudden death of comic, Robin Williams. A brilliant actor that made many laugh. We hear he has ‘died by suicide and had been suffering from severe depression. It shows the ironic cruel twist of depression – how a person can make others laugh whilst inside they are crying themselves. What a devastating blow for his wife and family.
Depression is real. It is a dark spirit that can suddenly descend on a person like a hurricane. Sometimes there are triggers. It can be the feather that breaks the camel’s back in the wide scheme of things. Depression is more than just feeling ‘blue’.
The effects are equally terrible. Depression causes other to isolate you. No one wants to be around a ‘miserable’ person. The phone calls stop. The visits dwindle. You suddenly become an isolation unit. The very things that are needed to help you are driven away from you. As a Christian, because of your faith, others may look at you as having weak faith and become judgemental towards you.
If you are feeling depressed, talk to someone who cares and can help. It can be life saving. Above all, remember, God loves you. Next month, we will perhaps look more at the subject of depression.
RIP Robin Williams!
