Thought for the day – Self Harm
Self harm such as cutting is a cry for help. It usually is not a suicide attempt yet can be very disturbing and distressing. Kids, i.e. teenagers, in particular cut to control their emotional pain.
Cuts can be hidden under sleeves. If you are a parent, seek help for your teenage kid. It is a psychiatric problem that needs attention.
If you are a parent and your child self harms, please do not see it as a passing phase. Seek immediate help and/or counsel for your child.
Resist from getting angry. It will not help the situation. Be grateful that you have found out. Many children are very clever in hiding their injuries. They will endeavor to hide what they are doing from you.
However remember that you and your child can get through this. It does not have to be a permanent issue in your child’s life up to adulthood.
